There are many daily departures of KTEL coaches from Athens to Kalamata, Messini, Koroni, Pylos, Filiatra, Gargaliani and Kyparissia. All municipalities and village communities, as well as their districts, are serviced with numerous daily departures, starting from Kalamata. Furthermore, by these coach-buses, Kalamata is directly connected to Tripoli, Sparti, Pyrgos, Patra, Ioannina and Thessaloniki.

The Rail Network that serves the Messinian Prefecture is part of the Peloponnese Rail Network. The two major lines that reach Kalamata are Athens - Korinthos - Argos - Tripoli - Kalamata and Athens - Korinthos - Patra - Pyrgos - Kalamata. There are many daily departures from Athens to Kalamata.

The main ports of Messinia are the ones in Kalamata, Pylos and Kyparissia with infrastructure for facilitating commercial, passenger and tourist carriage traffic. There are also marinas and a large number of fishing havens that operate complementary to the marinas. For best service of visitors there is also the Kalamata-Crete ferry-boat connection (Kalamata-Kithira-Kisamos)
