9 to 12 o?clock: Start with the Historical Center of the city. It is full of small and very friendly private shops with traditional products of Kalamata. You will find here everything for a reasonable price and all these products are original and precious. In the historical center, you will also find some historical monuments and museums. The most important ones are the following: Church of the Saint Apostles (Agion Apostolon), which is the oldest monument in the town (1317). It is the place where the war of Independece against the Turks was declared in 1821. Unfortunately, it was partially destroyed in the big earthquake of 1986. Today it is also the cultural center of the town, on the 23rd March Square concerts and other events take place. Visit also the Castle of Kalamata, which doesn?t offer too much things to see inside, but the view on the city is beautiful and it is also a very calm place to have a rest after walking. It dates from the 13th century and was built by the Venetians who were ruling the area at that time. |
The Castle has an open-air theatre inside, it offers various pieces during the summer.
12 to 14 o?clock: visit the War Museum, which is the newest museum of the city and has a lot of interesting objects from the Greek War of Independence through the World War II until nowadays, uniforms, weapons and a lot of interesting information.
14 to 15 o?clock: Walk around the historical center once again and choose one of the tavernas around there. |

18 to 21 o?clock: Stay on the seaside, and enjoy as the sun goes down, and the night lights over around and over the city, on the Mount Taygetos... Sit in one of the bars, and drink something while enjoying the beginning of the nightlife of Kalamata.

15 to 18 o?clock: Walk through the Aristomenou street, to the Main Square of the city, and continue down to the Municipal Park which is also an open air Railway Museum, and arrive to the seashore. Turn left, and after passing by al the bars on the coast, you will arrive to the beach of Kalamata. Have fun and enjoy swimming and lying in the sun!
